About GMUNC

The Henry M. Gunn Model United Nations Conference is a day-long, student led high school conference. It was first started by Gunn Model UN Club in 2013, and has continued to inspire delegates to this day. GMUNC is an excellent opportunity for both novice and experienced delegates. Newcomers get a chance to be introduced to the world of MUN, while veteran delegates can sharpen their skills in more advanced crisis and specialized committees.

GMUNC XI will take place at Henry M. Gunn High School on October 19, 2024. It is a smaller event geared towards preparation for local collegiate-run conferences. We offer a variety of different committees including general assemblies and crisis committees. Please be mindful that not all delegates are at are the same level of experience, so we ask that you be respectful and helpful to all delegates. Our campus map can be found here.

"As Captain of St. Francis High School's Model UN Team, I can happily say that GMUNC was everything we expected and more. The conference combined stellar chairing, intriguing topics, a dedicated crisis staff, and a high caliber of delegates to create an incredibly rewarding experience. More than that, GMUNC's staff worked hard to create a culture that focused on learning, debating, and negotiating, rather than competing, one of passionate inquisitiveness - and, dare I say, of family - allowing our delegates to really dig into exciting topics and make friends that lasted far beyond the realm of Palo Alto."

-Ryan Chandra | Head Delegate (fmr.), St. Francis High School

"Words cannot do justice when describing the wonderful experience known as GMUNC. From weeks before the conference date to the very last minute of closing ceremony, the GMUNC secretariat was incredibly accommodating and responsive in all the logistical matters of preparing and executing a well-run conference. The conference itself was remarkable and should be a destination for novice delegates testing the waters of the MUN world for the first time and experienced delegates refining their skills for the conferences to come later in the year. The topics of the committees were intriguing and diverse to accommodate the different levels of delegates attending, and the directors were extremely well prepared as evident in the background guides provided and the composure and effortless ease with which they ran committee and instructed the delegates on debating techniques and how to approach the nuances of their complex topics. GMUNC will surely become one of the leading training conferences in the Bay Area as they continue to expand their horizons and unlock their limitless potential in the years to come."

-Joseph Chen | Head Delegate (fmr.), Santa Teresa High School

"Monta Vista is deeply appreciative of the GMUNC Secretariat for running an exceptional conference. GMUNC provides an invaluable opportunity for novice delegates to immerse themselves in the spirit of Model UN without the nerves that typically accompany a larger conference. The smaller committee size allows for more speaking opportunities for the less aggressive delegate. In addition, the chairs are knowledgeable about about parliamentary procedure and eager to educate newer delegates. GMUNC affords great networking opportunities to forge connections with delegates they will likely meet again along their Model UN career. Overall, the conference was very professional: the Chairs were committed to the integrity of the competition. Monta Vista strongly encourages other schools to participate, as this conference paves the foundation for a more competitive Model UN atmosphere in the Bay Area."

-Nupoor Gandhi | Head Delegate (fmr.), Monta Vista High School
